The most "unlucky" game title of the Game Awards 2025 rightfully belongs to the disaster that was Highguard, which was announced with great fanfare at the end of the show, released the following month, and shut down within about forty days. Another serious contender for the less-than-flattering recognition is Gang of Dragon, also announced during last December's Los Angeles event, but left without funding after only a few months.

Developers Leave Nagoshi Studio

After losing funding from NetEase, developer Nagoshi Studio inevitably had to let go of its staff. As reported by Automaton Media, several key figures have left in recent weeks to join other companies: most notably Daisuke Sato, co-founder of the studio and game director, whose Twitter/X profile unequivocally indicates that he is a former Nagoshi Studio employee.

The list of defections also includes Kazuki Hosokawa, who was head of the design department, Naoki Someya (lead environment designer), Tomoharu Hosaka (technical artist), Hiroya Wakui (3D cinematic artist), Saizo Nagai (lead character artist), Shuichi Takahashi (VFX artist), and Toshihiro Ando (character artist). Despite this talent drain, for now Gang of Dragon has not been officially canceled and Nagoshi Studio has not been formally dissolved.
