Marathon's journey so far has certainly not been without its stumbles: you'll undoubtedly remember how the game's presentation was met with skepticism, leading to a delay to avert the danger of a flop. However, months have passed, and it shouldn't be forgotten that a certain Bungie, a company that knows its way around shooters, is still at the helm of the project. Finally, for Marathon, the tide seems to have turned.

The Success of the Server Slam

Last Thursday, the Server Slam began, a free test running on all platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam) and continuing until tomorrow. Conducted close to the release, which we remind you will be on Thursday, March 5th, this test allows players to try Marathon before launch and for Bungie to verify the resilience of its network infrastructure. Initially, the servers couldn't handle the massive influx of users, but this is good news because it's a symptom of great interest.

To confirm this interest, we can cite data from SteamDB, the only data currently available to us, which indicates that on Valve's platform, the Marathon test reached a peak of 143,621 concurrent users. These clues suggest that, at least at launch, Bungie's new creation will have a good following; it will then be up to the developers to keep the interest alive over time.
