With Jurassic World: Rebirth, the saga attempts a new beginning by setting the story in a future where dinosaurs, decimated by climate change, survive only in a tropical area forbidden to humans. Based on this premise, the film builds a dangerous expedition led by the mercenary Zora (Scarlett Johansson) and a multinational employee, Martin (Rupert Friend), in search of prehistoric blood samples. Around them revolve an idealistic paleontologist (Jonathan Bailey), a pragmatic captain (Mahershala Ali), and a family of castaways, in a plot that promises adventure and tension but soon gets lost.

The main problem lies in the writing: didactic dialogues, stereotypical characters, and a dramatic construction that prefers to tell rather than show. The protagonists' motivations are explained in words, not through actions or glances, extinguishing almost any possibility of empathy. Even the cast, rich in excellent names, appears trapped in roles with little depth.

Visually, the digital effects are solid, but the charm of yesteryear is gone. The creatures are hybrids of already known species and lack true personality, and the direction repeats the same visual patterns to exhaustion. Little wonder, no fear, and not even the scientific marvel that animated the first Jurassic Park films.

Shot analogically (Arriflex 235, Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2) on 35mm negative (50 and 500 ASA) with a 4K master from which this excellent UHD version was created. Image format 2.39:1 (3840 x 2160/23.97p) HEVC encoding on a triple-layer BD-100 disc. Reference spectacle superior to the 2K counterpart on BD-50, included in this edition, for an excellent result in terms of background element prominence, contrast, color richness, black depth, and more dynamic lights thanks to Dolby Vision.

The direction is more interesting than the story

The Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 channel in Italian (754 kbps) offers multiple dynamic transitions when listening through a Home Theater system. Contrasted dialogues, dynamic range, stage presence for the rear channels, and a certain depth even for the subwoofer. Listening quality further improves with the original Dolby TrueHD 7.1.4 with ATMOS objects, even if only 16 bit. This listening experience reveals a greater presence of elements from every channel, enhancing the viewing from the very first moments.
