Rambo's return to the big screen finally has a date. Lionsgate has announced that John Rambo, a film dedicated to the origins of the famous veteran, will arrive in theaters from June 4, 2027.
The project will recount the years preceding the events of First Blood, exploring the journey that transformed John Rambo into one of the most iconic characters in action cinema. Noah Centineo will play the young protagonist, while David Harbour will take on the role of Major Trautman, a fundamental figure in the character's story.
The Adventure Before First Blood
Jalmari Helander is directing, an acclaimed filmmaker known for films like Sisu and Rare Exports. According to the filmmaker, the new feature film will offer a more essential and human version of the hero created by David Morrell, focusing on survival, training, and the loss of innocence.
The screenplay is penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, also writers for Black Adam and The Mauritanian. The cast also includes Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong.
The announcement confirms Lionsgate's desire to relaunch one of the most popular action franchises of recent decades through a story set before its big-screen debut with Ted Kotcheff's 1982 film, where the character's suicide was initially planned (the scene was even shot).
