After the sensational success of the work directed by Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, subsequent attempts to expand the franchise did not achieve the same response. For this reason, the relaunch has been entrusted to Blumhouse, a studio that in recent years has built much of its reputation by bringing celebrated horror sagas back to life, Exorcist misstep aside.
The project also involves some names linked to the original: Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams will serve as executive producers alongside creators Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale. The stated goal is to recapture the atmosphere that made The Blair Witch Project famous, a film made with a very small budget and capable of grossing over 248 million dollars worldwide, forever changing the way terror is told through found footage.
