Harry Potter, HBO moves away from the idea of one season per year
The original project was intended to develop over approximately 10 years
“There won't be 2 years”. Casey Bloys thus sets a first firm point on the television future of Harry Potter, even if HBO has now abandoned the idea of guaranteeing one season per year.
Speaking with Deadline, the CEO of HBO and Max Content explained that the time needed to produce each season makes it difficult to maintain a 12-month cadence. Production will therefore have to follow different rhythms, with the aim of still avoiding excessively long intervals between chapters.
Even the ten-year plan is no longer a certainty
HBO had presented the adaptation as a project intended to develop over approximately 10 years, with one season for each of J.K. Rowling's 7 novels. Today, however, Bloys prefers not to confirm that prediction: when asked if the plan is still valid, he simply replied “Who knows?”.
The first season dedicated to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, however, continues to be planned for the Christmas period. “Christmas Day will be a big launch day for Harry Potter,” said Bloys, who reconfirmed Rowling's creative involvement.
Finally, an update on The Last of Us comes from the same interview: the third season is still scheduled for 2027, without a precise date yet. HBO has also not officially determined whether it will be the last.
