God of War Laufey to Release February 16, 2027, First in Series Without Kratos as Protagonist
Faye, Kratos's wife, is the protagonist. Santa Monica Studio announced the date at San Diego Comic-Con and confirmed a new God of War featuring Kratos is already in development.

God of War Laufey will release on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The date was announced yesterday by Santa Monica Studio during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, along with confirmation that the game will also be available in a physical disc version.
Laufey is the first main installment in the series where Kratos is not the protagonist. In his place is Faye, the demigod's wife, also known as Laufey: a Jötunn giantess who, in the God of War timeline, dies at the beginning of the 2018 reboot, an event that triggers the entire Norse saga. The new game picks up immediately after that death and leads the character into the Everywhen, a kind of afterlife for gods where deities from different mythologies vie for power. The series' perspective is flipped: for the first time, the player does not control Kratos, but the woman whose disappearance, until now, had only been recounted.
In the same panel, Cory Barlog, the studio's creative director, added a second piece of news: after Laufey, a new God of War focused again on Kratos will arrive, directly connected to the ending of Faye's game. Barlog described it as a continuation of what has been built so far and a foundation for what is to come.
The game was revealed in June 2026 during a State of Play, with about twenty minutes of gameplay. The choice to put Faye at the center had divided the public, with some reactions escalating into openly misogynistic criticism. Deborah Ann Woll, who provides the character's voice and motion capture, dismissed the controversy, saying she was "totally indifferent": she doesn't use social media, she explained to a fan during Florida Supercon, and remains convinced that the game "is not bad in any universe." According to the actress, the idea dates back to the time of the 2018 reboot, although available statements do not add details on this point.
Another path, however, is excluded: no PC port is planned. In May 2026, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst had internally confirmed that Sony's first-party single-player games would remain console exclusives, while live-service titles would continue to be released on multiple platforms. Neither the price nor pre-order details have been announced at this time.
