Far Cry: Ubisoft Has a Very Ambitious Project in the Works
We're not talking about Far Cry 7, but the one after that
The last installment in the Far Cry series dates back to 2021: since then, no official information has been released about the future of the franchise, but over time some rumors have leaked, anticipating Ubisoft's moves. In 2023, we discovered that there wasn't just one project in the works, but two: the sequel to the main saga, codenamed Blackbird (which will most likely be renamed Far Cry 7), and an extraction shooter, Maverick.
In 2025, Maverick's development seemed to have restarted from scratch: today we know that it has been canceled, probably because public interest in extraction shooters is much cooler than in the past. However, as reported by Insider Gaming, there are still two Far Cry projects in the works: the first is indeed Blackbird, whose creation encountered several setbacks, but is now proceeding smoothly.
Kodiak: The New Far Cry Game
The second project is codenamed Kodiak and was built on the foundations of Maverick, but will not itself fall into the extraction shooter category. Kodiak will instead be an open-world FPS, centered on player interactions and player-driven stories. Developed by Vantage Studios, the new subsidiary born after the joint venture with Tencent, this title is described as very ambitious; its development has just begun, and it will not see the light of day for several years.
