Disney Cursed Love: Beauty and the Beast Inaugurate Disney and WEBTOON's New Romantasy Series
The Curse of a Forsaken Heart will debut in 2027 as a webcomic, before also arriving in print format. The story will center on Belle, the prince, and a kingdom condemned to live without love.
Disney Publishing announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 a new editorial collaboration with WEBTOON called Disney Cursed Love, a series of romantasy stories inspired by some of the most well-known couples in the Disney universe. As explained in the official WEBTOON Entertainment press release, the project will blend romance, fantasy, dark magic, and curses, starting in 2027 with a story dedicated to Beauty and the Beast.
The first title will be The Curse of a Forsaken Heart, written by Emily McIntire and illustrated by Samairu. The story will initially be published as an exclusive webcomic on WEBTOON and will later also be released in print format, with multiple editions planned throughout 2027. A precise date has not yet been announced.
The story picks up with Belle and the Beast, now returned to his human form, who are sucked through an enchanted stained-glass window and end up in another world. The kingdom they find themselves in is tied to Princess Emberlynne, guilty of having rejected the marriage proposal of an evil sorcerer. In revenge, the man cast a curse that prevents the inhabitants, and anyone who enters the kingdom, from experiencing love.
Belle and the prince will therefore have to prevent the spell from destroying their relationship as well, while simultaneously helping Emberlynne break the curse and finding a way to return home. McIntire explained during the panel Future of Digital Comics: Disney, Marvel, & WEBTOON that she wants to preserve the familiarity of the Disney characters, but also introduce new protagonists and include references for those who know the original stories.
Disney Cursed Love expands on an already established collaboration between the two companies. Disney and WEBTOON had in fact planned almost 100 adaptations and original series designed for the platform's vertical format, while over twenty comics are already available in the Disney section of the app in English. Other titles destined for WEBTOON were also confirmed at D23, including Star Wars: Visions – The Followers of Ankok, The Ronin and the Droid, Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, The Ultimates, and Disney Villains comics dedicated to Hades, Maleficent, and Ursula.
The agreement between the companies is broader than just the webcomic format. In 2025, Disney and WEBTOON also announced the development of a new digital platform intended to bring together over 35,000 Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios comics, along with original productions.
