Bluepoint Games and the Bloodborne Remake Halted by Miyazaki
The game's creator didn't want others to work on it

New details have emerged regarding the unfortunate situation of Bluepoint Games, the Texas-based studio specializing in remakes that was recently closed by Sony, despite the solid reputation it had built with works such as Demon's Souls on PlayStation 5. The beginning of the end for Bluepoint coincided with Sony's eagerness to dive headfirst into the sector of games conceived as a service: a goal that in recent years led the Japanese company to put something like a dozen live service games into production, with disastrous consequences.
Sony achieved a resounding success with Helldivers 2; however, this was counterbalanced by the equally resounding failure of Concord, and if we add that many projects were cut before even seeing the light of day, the balance is certainly negative. The problem is that these failures marked the fate of some studios involved, such as Firesprite, London Studio, or most recently Bluepoint Games.
Details on the God of War live service
After supporting Santa Monica Studio for God of War Ragnarok, Bluepoint dedicated itself to a live service based on the same franchise. Bloomberg explains what the project entailed: at its core was an idea, that of Atreus falling into Hades. Players would have controlled different versions of Kratos's son and cooperated to overcome the monsters of Greek hell. This title was cut in January 2025.

Bloodborne and Miyazaki's Great Refusal
With the long and unfruitful live service period concluded, Bluepoint needed something else to work on. After delivering a great remake with Demon's Souls, the most logical solution seemed to be to remake another beloved FromSoftware title, namely Bloodborne. However, according to Bloomberg, this hypothesis was discarded due to the opposition of the game's creator, master Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Apparently, the Japanese game designer is interested in personally returning to work on the franchise (though not immediately, as he doesn't have the time) and doesn't want others to touch it. Sony acknowledged his decision and chose to respect it. A side note: the intellectual property of Bloodborne is in the hands of the Japanese company, which theoretically could have made a remake regardless of Miyazaki's wishes.
Bluepoint Games Left Without a Game
With the Bloodborne hypothesis also discarded, things took a turn for the worse for Bluepoint. After many remakes, the studio wanted to create its own game and explored the possibility of a new Shadow of the Colossus (which they had already worked on, back on PS4) or a spinoff of Ghost of Tsushima, but Sony said no. In February 2026, after over a year of forced inactivity, Bluepoint was closed.
