The Project Aces team outlines the salient features of their work
Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve in which the developers speak about their new work. Members of the Japanese studio Project Aces describe Ace Combat 8 as a game that gathers the legacy of the 30-year series and brings it to the current generation, preserving the necessary elements and renewing others.
The Story of Ace Combat 8
In previous Ace Combat games, the story was viewed from the outside, while in the new chapter it will be framed from a first-person perspective: players will see daily life on the aircraft carrier Endurance through the eyes of a pilot. The events told are fictional and set in a fictitious world, inspired by war films. The narrative will intertwine military strategy and human drama.
The Graphics of Ace Combat 8
From a technical standpoint, Ace Combat 8 also intends to distance itself from its predecessors: the aircraft will be much more detailed, with a polygon count 6 times higher than that of Ace Combat 7 and 4K textures, compared to the 1K used in the past. Thanks to the proprietary middleware Cloudy, locations with layered clouds have been created: flying through them allows the player to fully perceive the sense of speed.

The Photorealism of Ace Combat 8
Ace Combat 8 aims for photorealism with Lumen, the advanced lighting system that allows for realistic light reflections, but not only. The military environments have been recreated with extensive documentation: developers took thousands of photos of hangars, which they then digitally reproduced using high-resolution images and 3D scans.
The Aircraft of Ace Combat 8
Ace Combat fans are obviously curious to see the original aircraft that will appear in the game, and the developers have hinted at something in this regard: the trailer shows, for example, the Super Hornet, an emblematic jet of the series, but also the enormous Podarge, a transport aircraft that has loaded something truly massive. Project Aces assures that a respectable arsenal will be made available for the aircraft.
The Gameplay of Ace Combat 8
The Ace Combat series has never aspired to be a simulation, but rather a "flying shooter". The gameplay works on a simple principle: align the reticle with the target and shoot, an approach designed to be very accessible. If, despite these prerogatives, the user encounters difficulties, there will be specific tools to help them, a tutorial, and a training mode.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will offer players an engaging campaign and the most extensive online multiplayer mode ever seen in the series. We remind you that the title's release is set for 2026: you will find the new chapter of the series on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, via Steam.
