In recent years, the mid-to-high range of smartphones has become increasingly interesting. Many manufacturers are bringing features that once belonged exclusively to flagships to this category, striving to offer a compelling balance between price and performance. The Realme 16 Pro+ fits into this scenario, including the 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage version, priced at 599 euros, which we tested.

While not the most powerful smartphone in its price range, it still manages to carve out a rather defined personality thanks to an impressive mix of battery life, solid performance, and some features explicitly designed for those who also use their smartphone as a gaming platform.

The device is available in “Premium Gold” and “Elegant Grey” colors, which correspond to Master Gold and Master Black in international nomenclature.

Realme 16 Pro+: Modern Design and Naoto Fukasawa's Signature

One of the most interesting aspects of the Realme 16 Pro+ is its design. For this model, the company renewed its collaboration with the renowned Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, who previously designed some of the brand's most iconic editions, such as Realme X Master Edition, X2 Master Edition, GT Master Edition, and GT2 Pro Master Edition.

The aesthetic concept is called Urban Wild Design and seeks to combine natural elements with contemporary lines. The underlying idea is to bring a more organic and tactile feel to a highly technological object.

The result is a smartphone that heavily relies on the contrast between surfaces. The large rear camera module is set into a Metal Mirror Camera Deco, a mirror-finish metal plate that frames the lenses like a jewel. This glossy element contrasts with the matte texture of the rear panel, creating a very distinctive visual effect.

The back uses a bio-based organic silicone derived from vegetable straw, processed with a low environmental impact method. In addition to the ecological component, this material offers a surprisingly pleasant tactile sensation: the surface is soft, slightly granular, and provides a very secure grip. The overall effect is warmer and more natural compared to classic glossy glass or plastic panels.

Realme 16 Pro+ Ergonomics: Large, but Well-Balanced

The Realme 16 Pro+ is not a compact smartphone. Its dimensions are (H x W x D) 162.45 x 76.27 x 8.49 mm, while its weight is around 200 grams. Nevertheless, in daily use, the device proves more practical than its specifications might suggest. The smooth transition between the slightly curved display, side frame, and rear panel creates a pleasant continuity.

The large square camera module does not protrude excessively and integrates well with the rest of the body. The rear panel resists fingerprints fairly well, while the glossy plate of the camera compartment tends to mark more easily.

The power and volume buttons are naturally positioned, while the under-display fingerprint reader is placed quite low: it works well, but requires a small thumb movement to reach it.

The Realme 16 Pro+ Display

The Realme 16 Pro+ uses a 6.8” AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (1280 x 2800 pixels, 453 ppi) and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. The panel supports 1.07 billion colors, approximately 100% DCI-P3 coverage, a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, and a declared peak brightness of up to 6500 nits. In practice, it's a very convincing screen: sharp images, vibrant colors, and high brightness that allows for good readability even under intense light.

The high refresh rate makes interface navigation and gaming very fluid, while the 240 Hz touch sampling rate helps improve command responsiveness. However, the choice of a curved display might not be appreciated by everyone, especially by more competitive gamers who often prefer completely flat screens because they reduce accidental touches on the edges.

Realme 16 Pro+ Technical Specifications

The phone comes with Android 16 and the Realme UI 7.0 interface, which now shares much of its software base with the systems used by Oppo and OnePlus. The user experience is fluid and well-optimized. Animations are smooth and switching between applications occurs without noticeable slowdowns. As is often the case with Realme devices, some pre-installed apps are present from the first boot, but most can be easily removed. The system also offers fairly simple tools for transferring data and applications from an old smartphone. Regarding updates, Realme promises 3 years for Android and 4 years of security patches, adequate support for its market segment.

The Processor

The heart of the Realme 16 Pro+ is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a 4-nanometer chipset that falls into the mid-to-high range. It doesn't offer the brutal power of flagship processors, but it proves capable for daily use. Browsing, social networking, video streaming, and multitasking run smoothly. The tested version with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of storage promotes great fluidity when quickly switching between different applications. In synthetic benchmarks, the device scores over 1,440,000 points on AnTuTu, a result that places it at the top of its category. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 (audio codecs SBC, AAC, LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, LHDC 5.0).

Gaming: An Unexpected Vocation

While not officially presented as a gaming smartphone, the Realme 16 Pro+ performs surprisingly well. Popular titles like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Mobile run without difficulty with high graphics settings and a stable frame rate. The experience remains fluid even during prolonged sessions. With heavier games, the temperature can exceed 40°C, indicating that the cooling system is not designed for extreme eSports competitions. However, the device still manages to maintain stable performance without evident throttling.

For frequent gamers, Realme has integrated GT Mode, a dedicated gaming mode that boosts CPU and GPU performance. By activating it, you can adjust various parameters: display refresh rate, touch sensitivity, HDR activation in compatible games, and blocking notifications and calls. These settings allow you to adapt the smartphone to the type of game and achieve a more immersive experience.

Realme 16 Pro+, Battery Life

One of the most impressive elements of the Realme 16 Pro+ is its 7,000 mAh battery. In daily use, it's possible to exceed 9 hours of screen-on time, with less intensive users potentially reaching up to 2 days of battery life. For those who frequently play video games or stream videos, this energy margin is a great advantage. The 80W fast charging allows for a full charge in about 1 hour. The package includes a USB-C cable, a transparent protective cover, and a SIM tray pin, while the power adapter must be purchased separately.

The Realme 16 Pro+ Camera: How are the Photos and Videos?

For the first time, the Realme numeric series introduces a 200 MP main camera. The Samsung HP5 sensor with f/1.8 aperture uses optical and electronic stabilization and offers very detailed shots in good light conditions. The camera system also includes:

  • 50 MP 3.5x telephoto lens (Samsung JN5 sensor)
  • 8 MP ultra-wide-angle
  • 50 MP OmniVision front camera

In the camera app, you can choose between modes that favor a more realistic or more vibrant look. An interesting feature called AI Composition suggests small adjustments to the framing to improve the final result. The telephoto lens allows for very convincing portraits thanks to good plane separation and offers various virtual focal lengths for Portrait mode. The ultra-wide-angle, however, is simpler and shows detail limitations compared to the other cameras.

The video compartment supports 1080/30-60fps, 4K/30-60 fps with the main and front cameras. The telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lenses are limited to 1080p, a choice that makes the system less homogeneous when switching from one lens to another during recording. The stabilization is generally good, although image processing could be improved.

Sustainability and Durability

Realme has sought to introduce some elements related to sustainability. The bio-based rear panel reduces the use of petroleum-derived materials and should better resist wear over time. The unit also features IP68 and IP69 certifications, indicating protection against dust, water immersion, and high-pressure jets. Display Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. This level of robustness helps extend its lifespan.

Audio Could Be Improved

Audio is probably the weakest point of the Realme 16 Pro+. The speakers are acceptable for videos and casual content, but the quality is not particularly rich. Even the vibration motor does not reach the level of higher-end models. Activating the audio volume selection displays the logo for activating useful real-time subtitles (with increased power consumption).

Conclusion

The Realme 16 Pro+ is a smartphone that focuses on very specific features. It doesn't dominate every category, but it offers some strengths that are hard to ignore: enormous battery life, original design signed by Fukasawa, good general performance, gaming-specific features, and a very convincing 200 MP main camera with the increasingly valuable help of AI to improve and/or enrich shots, videos up to 4K/60Hz. There are still some compromises, such as improvable audio and a processor that doesn't reach the power of flagship chips.

If the idea is to find a capable smartphone that lasts a long time away from the power outlet and can handle long usage sessions even for gaming without problems, the Realme 16 Pro+ still represents an interesting proposition in the landscape of devices around the 600 euro price range.
