Wonder Man is ready to bring a breath of originality to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series, created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, will arrive on Disney+ in early 2026 and promises a mix of satire, meta-cinema, and superhero action. A project that aims to tell the more human, and often tragicomic, side of an actor's life in a world populated by heroes, gods, and legends.

The Plot of Wonder Man: What is the Marvel Series About?

The story follows Simon Williams, a struggling actor who tries to revive his career by participating in a remake of a film dedicated to… himself: Wonder Man. Alongside him is Trevor Slattery, the disgraced former actor seen in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, also seeking redemption and notoriety.

Between disastrous auditions, unforgiving spotlights, and the constant pressure of an industry that consumes its stars, the series plays with the concept of dual identity: that of the actor and that of the superhero. Wonder Man will therefore be an ironic and melancholic reflection on success, fiction, and the price of fame, all filtered through the typical style of Marvel Studios.

Who is Wonder Man?

In the Marvel comics, Simon Williams is a former businessman who gains superhuman powers due to an experiment conducted by Baron Zemo. After a past as a villain, Simon becomes a historical member of the Avengers and is known for his strength, resilience, and a complex relationship with the entertainment world, where he works as an actor and stuntman.

In the Disney+ series, this Hollywood component will be at the center of the story: a hero trying to play himself, between reality and fiction, in a Hollywood that increasingly resembles a parallel universe.

Wonder Man, the Villain

The main antagonist of the series is expected to be Eric Williams, better known as Grim Reaper, Simon's brother and a key figure in the Marvel comics. Played by Demetrius Grosse, Eric represents the protagonist's darker side: a man blinded by envy and resentment, ready to do anything to destroy what his brother has built.

The contrast between the two, charisma and self-destruction, success and failure, will be one of the most dramatic elements of Wonder Man, balanced by the satirical and meta-theatrical tone that characterizes the series.

The Cast of Wonder Man

Playing the protagonist is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, already seen in Watchmen and Aquaman, here tackling one of the most complex and ironic roles in the MCU. Alongside him returns Ben Kingsley, as the unforgettable Trevor Slattery, while Ed Harris will play Neal Saroyan, Simon's ruthless agent.

The cast is completed by Arian Moayed (known for Succession), Olivia Thirlby, Zlatko Buri as director Von Kovak, and X Mayo. Also featured are Josh Gad, Lauren Glazier, Byron Bowers, Joe Pantoliano, and Jere Burns, with several guest stars still kept secret by Marvel Studios.

Wonder Man, the TV Series Release Date

The series will debut on Disney+ on January 28, 2026, after a long gestation marked by Hollywood strikes and several postponements. Wonder Man will officially be part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be distributed under the Marvel Spotlight label, dedicated to the studio's more self-contained and experimental projects.
