Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again? Some Are Speculating
But it would be a disaster for the industry
Anticipated like no other title in video game history, initially slated for autumn 2025, then postponed to May 26, 2026: we are, of course, talking about Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games' work that will most likely establish itself as a mass culture phenomenon and set unprecedented sales records. But are we really sure we'll be able to get our hands on it in the spring of next year?
The Doubt About GTA 6's Release Date
Raising the question is Reece Reilly, host of the New Zealand podcast Kiwi Talkz, known for his numerous interviews with video game developers. Reilly claims to have received conflicting information from various subsidiary studios of Rockstar (in Bangalore, Edinburgh, and San Diego) regarding GTA 6's release, a sign that there isn't a consensus on the matter. In his opinion, this should mean that developers intend to deliver the game on schedule, but that the possibility of another delay should also be considered.
Why a GTA 6 Delay Would Be a Disaster
A good part of the video game industry is scared, not to say terrified, of Grand Theft Auto VI: Rockstar's title will monopolize general attention in the weeks leading up to and following its release, so numerous publishers will be careful not to overlap their game's launch window with GTA's. We've already discussed this in the past, in this article and in this other one.
A further delay would therefore force many publishers to revise their plans, causing a chain reaction of disruptions. Even worse if this delay were not accompanied by a new release date: it would create a climate of uncertainty that would be nothing short of detrimental.
