For those who feared the usual plethora of multiplayer titles that now crowd major presentations in recent years, excellent news arrives from Wizards of the Coast, which today unveiled the first gameplay images of Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, a single-player (we repeat: single-player) third-person action-adventure set in a dark fantasy open world inspired by the D&D universe, where magic becomes a creative tool in both combat and exploration.

Developed by Invoke Studios, the game puts players in the shoes of Kaatri, a veteran master-at-arms who makes a pact to tap into otherworldly magic and fight dark forces. The character is portrayed by award-winning actress Tricia Helfer (remember "Number Six" in Battlestar Galactica?)

The presentation also introduced a new character, Tasha, played by Maggie Robertson: she will be Kaatri's patron, serving as both a source of power and a guide, teaching her to perceive Raw Magic — a hidden energy in every corner of Darkon capable of expanding and transforming her magical abilities.

The trailer highlights the core of the gameplay: magic as a tool to interpret and reshape the surrounding environment. Kaatri can transform the scenery, enemy positioning, and even weather conditions into tactical opportunities, chaining spells and then exploiting them with her melee combat skills. The result is a fluid system of exploration and combat, where observation and experimentation allow players to discover new paths and unexpected solutions.

Warlock is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a release expected in 2027.
