Unreal Engine 6: Details of Epic Games' Next Engine
There are three main new features: let's look at them together

Last month, Rocket League caught the attention of video game enthusiasts because it was the first game ever to announce Unreal Engine 6. Epic Games has finally unveiled its new engine: conceptually, it will represent the union of what are currently the company's two main development areas, namely Unreal Engine 5 and Unreal Editor for Fortnite. Unreal Engine 6 will have three main new features.
Unreal Engine 6's New Features
- Verse - Unreal Engine 6 will be based on a new-generation programming language called Verse, which will make C++ code transactions much simpler. This language is specifically designed to manage large, persistent worlds and will be able to execute game code on different servers without the need to coordinate it with network code. For developers, this will result in much less complex work, with fewer scalability issues and an extremely more immediate saving system.
- Portability - The second major new feature of Unreal Engine 6 will be to make content and code portable between games and graphics engines. Epic Games intends to establish a shared industry standard that allows the same resources to be distributed across multiple projects, with an approach focused on interoperability. The testbed for portability, needless to say, will be Fortnite, specifically its cosmetic items.
- AI Integration - Epic Games has acknowledged that artificial intelligence tools are being used more and more frequently in content creation and for this reason intends to integrate them into Unreal Engine 6, through the new MCP protocol. Users will have a wide range of tools available to import what has been created with models like Claude or Gemini. The goal will be to drastically reduce the repetitive part of the work.
When Unreal Engine 6 Will Be Released
Epic Games' new engine thus promises to be a futuristic tool, but when can we use it? The launch window for Unreal Engine 6 is set for late 2027, in an early access version. The final version will then be released 12 to 18 months later. For more details on the new engine, please consult the official website.
