Michael B. Jordan has officially confirmed that he is leading a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair, but the actor and director immediately clarifies: it is not a traditional remake. The project he has been working on for over a year aims to reinterpret from scratch the famous heist movie that starred Steve McQueen in 1968 and returned to cinemas in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan.

The announcement came during Variety's Awards Circuit podcast, where Jordan spoke about the intensity of a creative process that saw him simultaneously engaged in directing, producing, screenwriting, and acting. A journey that, by his own admission, was more demanding than Sinners, the other film that brought him to the center of awards season.

Not the usual remake

The goal of the new version is to update the character and his motivations. Jordan wants to abandon the idea of the billionaire thief who acts purely for fun, replacing it with a protagonist driven by more complex and contemporary reasons. Style, elegance, and sophisticated atmospheres will remain intact, elements that have made the title a classic.

The confirmed cast includes Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Pilou Asbæk, and Danai Gurira, with costumes entrusted to Oscar winner Ruth E. Carter. For Jordan, who grew up admiring the '99 version and then rediscovered the '68 one, this production represents an opportunity to create something personal without being trapped by nostalgia.

Scheduled for 2027, the new film is thus preparing to bring Thomas Crown back into the contemporary landscape with a completely new identity.
