In the landscape of contemporary action, there are (few) performers capable of transforming their stage presence into the main strength of a saga. Ma Seok-do belongs to this category, and The Roundup: No Way Out confirms it once again.

The third chapter of the “Korean Bud Spencer” series doesn't try to reinvent anything. On the contrary, it wholeheartedly embraces the formula that led to the success of previous episodes: an unconventional cop, increasingly dangerous criminals, and a long sequence of clashes that alternate tension and irony. This time, the investigation leads to a confrontation with Japanese, Chinese, and Korean crime, offering new adversaries and a slightly different context compared to past adventures.

Ma Seok-do is worth the entire show

The screenplay proceeds along very simple tracks and rarely seeks particular insights. The film prefers to invest all its energy in pure entertainment, relying on chases, brawls, and situations built to enhance the protagonist's physicality. And it is precisely here that the work finds its raison d'être.

Director Lee Sang-yong maintains a sustained pace for almost two hours, avoiding dead time and letting the fights dictate the narrative progression. Humor often arises from the protagonist's reactions and blunt manners, an element that helps lighten the tone without compromising the effectiveness of the action.

The Roundup: No Way Out is not a film destined to surprise those seeking complexity or innovation. However, it is a solid action film, aware of its limits and qualities, built to offer immediate spectacle and enhance the charisma of one of Korean cinema's most recognizable stars.

Likely shot digitally, with unspecified resolution for an overall excellent technical result despite the choice of a single-layer BD-25. Image format 2.39:1 (1920 x 1080/23.97p), AVC/MPEG-4 encoding. Solidity and rich colors, rather solid blacks, and a sense of three-dimensionality make for an enjoyable viewing experience even on large screens.

As with previous chapters, the audio offering is very interesting, with (excellent) Italian dubbing mixed with Japanese and Chinese, while in the original version, our language is replaced by Korean. Dual DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (16 bit) and mirrored Dolby Digital 2.0 (224 kbps). The lossless tracks are obviously the best for dynamics and sonic involvement between dialogue and effects, with good bass reproduction.

As for extras, only the trailer.
