Russell Crowe might make an exception to a rule he has followed for most of his career. The actor has confirmed that there have been discussions about a possible return as Gabriele Amorth, the priest he portrayed in The Pope’s Exorcist.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Crowe explained that he had long avoided sequels because he often considered them commercial operations lacking the same care given to original films. However, his stance has changed: some continuations have managed to forge their own identity, convincing him to reconsider the matter. Among the characters he might reprise is Amorth. Crowe recalled that Amorth wrote 12 books about his experiences, material that could offer further inspiration for a potential sequel.
Amorth Might Still Have Much to Tell
There is no shortage of material to draw from: Crowe believes that the priest's stories offer enough inspiration to develop a new chapter. For now, there is no official confirmation of his involvement in The Pope’s Exorcist 2.
The first film, directed by Julius Avery, brought Amorth to Spain to investigate a case of possession, intertwining supernatural horror with a Vatican-related conspiracy. A potential sequel could therefore expand that narrative world, while awaiting the first concrete details of the story to circulate.
