Russell Crowe to Star in Historical Epic The Last Druid
Crowe will play a Celtic chief who has taken refuge with his people in the mountains of Caledonia
After years spent between improbable thrillers, supernatural horrors, and decidedly over-the-top productions, Russell Crowe seems ready to re-embrace the historical cinema that transformed him into a global icon thanks to Gladiator. The Australian actor will indeed star in The Last Druid, a new project set during the expansion of the Roman Empire.
In the film, Crowe will portray an elderly Celtic chief who has taken refuge with his people in the mountains of Caledonia. However, peace will be short-lived: Rome will discover their hiding place and launch a new military offensive, forcing the character to return to battle to defend his land.
Between Spanish Landscapes and Epic Atmospheres
Filming will begin in the coming weeks between Barcelona and the Canary Islands, which have become a favorite hub for international productions thanks to their spectacular landscapes and tax incentives. The setting promises a darker and wilder tone compared to classic Hollywood peplums. Alongside Crowe will be Rose Leslie, Daniel Zovatto, and Andreas Pietschmann.
William Eubank will direct, a visually interesting filmmaker still searching for his definitive project. For this reason, The Last Druid could prove to be a much more ambitious surprise than expected.
