The Backrooms: A24 film will be part of the original lore
It won't be a traditional sequel, with a narrative concept designed specifically for it
The anticipated cinematic adaptation of The Backrooms continues to intrigue horror fans, especially after years of development and the sensational online success of the series created by Kane Parsons on YouTube.
Many fans wondered if the A24-produced film would be a complete reboot or a direct sequel to the famous found footage videos that went viral in 2021. The answer has finally arrived: the project will be officially connected to the original lore.
No obligation to catch up on the series
According to Parsons himself during a conversation with the community, the film will be part of the same narrative universe as the YouTube series and will be set in the same time period, the 1990s. However, it will not be a traditional sequel: the film has been constructed to also function as a standalone experience.
Those unfamiliar with the online phenomenon will therefore be able to follow the film without particular problems. However, watching the original videos might help to catch hidden details, references, and small connections scattered throughout the story.
Behind the scenes, there was also the creative support of Osgood Perkins, involved as a mentor during production. The Backrooms will arrive in Italian cinemas on May 27 and aims to become one of the most discussed horrors of the summer.
