The next James Bond could have a much less familiar face than the names circulated so far suggested. Among the actors destined for the next casting trials, Jack Barton, 31 years old, a British actor with a filmography still far from that of the big stars nominated for the role, has reportedly emerged.
Reported by Tatiana Siegel of Page Six, the news gains weight especially because the selections will soon enter the camera test phase, expected in early September. Barton has reportedly gained ground precisely while actors like Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Harris Dickinson continue to be linked to the part.
Everything could change in September
Barton has worked in Poor Things, SAS: Rogue Heroes, and Heartstopper, but does not yet possess a level of fame comparable to that of the main competitors. However, this might be precisely the point: after the Daniel Craig era, Amazon MGM seems to be leaning towards an actor young enough to sustain a multi-year cycle.
The choice will also involve Denis Villeneuve, Nina Gold, Steven Knight, Amy Pascal, and David Heyman. Next month could finally narrow down a search that has been going on for years. What if an almost unknown face were to inherit the legacy of the last James Bond?
