Stranger than Heaven goes big with 5 cities across 5 different eras

With a new, violent, and adrenaline-fueled gameplay trailer

Introduced in 2024 under the provisional name Project Century, Stranger than Heaven is the new work from Ryu Ga Gotoku studio, also known for the Yakuza/Like a Dragon saga. The affinities with this series are clear: once again, we will find ourselves in a story set in the world of Japanese crime. However, the new game seems more technically advanced and much more violent.


5 cities, across 5 different moments of the 20th century

The new gameplay trailer stages this violence without restraint (which makes it unsuitable for impressionable audiences), but above all, it reveals the title's great ambition: Stranger than Heaven will visit as many as 5 cities, a plurality of locations that the studio previously experimented with in Yakuza 5. What is unprecedented, however, is that the game will unfold across 5 eras of the last century: 1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, 1965. It remains to be seen whether each era corresponds to only one city or not, a significant difference…

Where and when Stranger than Heaven will be released

The trailer concludes with a promising "coming soon", which gives hope that the game could be released this year. We will know more on May 6th, when a dedicated event for Stranger than Heaven will be broadcast. You will find Ryu Ga Gotoku studio's latest effort on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam, Xbox PC) and also from day one on the Game Pass service.
