In Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the part where the very young Anakin Skywalker has to win his freedom [indirectly... to summarize] by winning the PodRace, or PodRacer in the original language, holds significant importance. The sequence lasts about ten minutes of pure adrenaline, too well-crafted and detailed not to make many viewers think, "They made this for the video game!". Obviously, that same year, Star Wars: Episode I Racer, which featured gameplay and characters taken directly from those sequences, hit the shelves.

Last December, the announcement of Star Wars: Galactic Racer by Fuse Games and Secret Mode during the VGA 2025 brought speed races set in the galaxy far, far away back to screens, but a small doubt crept into viewers' minds: the trailer showed several "Sprinter" models but not a single pod. Is it possible that this type of vehicle won't be present?

You can rest assured: in an interview with Gamesradar, Fuse Games co-founder and CEO Matt Webster confirmed the presence of the iconic vehicles in the game.
"You can't seriously make a Star Wars racing experience and not have podracing, can you? - Webster clarifies - The fantasy at the heart of the game is to become an elite pilot of the Galactic League, and podracing is the pinnacle of speed in the Star Wars galaxy. On the other hand, when we set out to make Galactic Racer, we wanted to do more: include different types of vehicles and different expressions of speed to give players a broad experience. Galactic Racer offers players the chance to pilot the vehicles they know and love, including those they haven't experienced before, across a range of single-player and multiplayer modes."
...and if we're being honest, the presence of Sebulba [Anakin's rival] at the end of the December trailer should have been taken as confirmation of podracing's presence.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, in the time period between Episode VI and Episode VII when the Galaxy experienced a fragile truce between wars. The first part of the animated series Star Wars Resistance is also set in this scenario, where, among other things, the protagonist Kazuda Xiono must compete in some spaceship speed races... perhaps these competitions will also find a place in the game? For now, who knows...

For now, it is known that the protagonist of Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be an original character named Shade and that the races will take place in the Outer Rim of the galaxy.
The game is in preparation for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with a release expected by the end of 2026.
