A game that's a hybrid of metroidvania and survival horror
Publisher Team17 announces Silver Pines, a video game that is a hybrid of metroidvania and survival horror. In this title, players take on the role of Red Walker, a private investigator tracking down missing musician Eddie Velvet (the name seems to be a tribute to the Pearl Jam frontman). During his search, Walker ends up in Silver Pines, a sinister, semi-abandoned town in the middle of nowhere.
Silver Pines Gameplay
As mentioned above, the game draws inspiration from metroidvania and survival horror. The layout of Silver Pines reflects the former genre: a labyrinthine environment, with areas that will become progressively accessible throughout the adventure. Regarding the survival horror component, in addition to an atmosphere reminiscent of Silent Hill or Alan Wake, we find various abominable creatures and bosses to face, with challenging encounters and very few resources available in the inventory.
When and Where Silver Pines Will Be Released
Silver Pines is the first work developed by Wych Elm Games, a studio based in Sweden. If this genre blend intrigues you, know that the game is scheduled for 2026; Red Walker will have to contend with the horror on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and Xbox PC.
