Robin Hood – Bad News for the Live-Action Version
The story of the legendary English outlaw with anthropomorphic animals dates back to 1973

The project for a new live-action adaptation of Robin Hood will no longer see the light of day. Confirmation comes directly from director Carlos López Estrada, who explained that the film is no longer part of The Walt Disney Company's plans.
Announced in 2020, the production was intended for the Disney+ platform. The idea envisioned a musical reinterpretation of the celebrated 1973 animated classic, retaining the characters in animal form but combining live-action footage and CGI. Kari Granlund, who was previously involved in the remake of Lady and the Tramp, was working on the screenplay.
Timeless Masterpiece
Despite initial development, the project progressively lost momentum until it disappeared from the Studio's calendar. In recent years, Disney has begun to rethink its remake strategy, prioritizing fewer productions but with greater attention to quality. This direction was also indicated by CEO Bob Iger, after a phase in which the company had multiplied content, especially for streaming.
The cancellation is surprising because Robin Hood remains one of the most beloved titles in the Disney catalog, famous for its choice to tell the legend of the outlaw archer with anthropomorphic animals, accompanied by the popular song “Love,” which was nominated for an Oscar.
For now, the film remains one of many remakes left on paper, while Disney continues to develop new versions of other classics such as Hercules, Tangled, and Moana.
