Resident Evil – Zach Cregger Transforms Prague into a Nightmare
The script aims for the early video games more in atmosphere than plot
Amidst the deserted streets of Prague, illuminated by a pallid glow, production has begun on the new Resident Evil, a project marking the cinematic rebirth of the saga. Leading the operation is Zach Cregger, a director who in recent years has brought the horror genre back into the spotlight with disturbing works like Barbarian and the more recent Weapons. Now he attempts his most ambitious challenge: bringing the nightmare of Raccoon City back to the big screen with a brand-new story.
The first material leaked from the set leaves no doubt about the film's tone. Photos and videos shared online show a city transformed into a frozen labyrinth, where hordes of undead move with realism. In one of the most discussed amateur clips, a crowd of zombies runs in unison behind a survivor: a few images, but enough to make it clear that the production is heavily focused on visual impact.
A director who seems to be a guarantee of success

Cregger has clarified that this is not a remake, nor a return to the classic characters. The film will follow a new protagonist on a journey that becomes increasingly claustrophobic and oppressive, echoing the experience of the early video games more in atmosphere than in plot. The story is that of a courier tasked with a delivery to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in an epidemic and must fight against hordes of mutant creatures.
Bringing this glacial universe to life will be a diverse cast: Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Houser, Zach Cherry, and Kali Reis. Very different faces, chosen to portray not only fear, but above all the human fragility that has always defined Resident Evil.
