Resident Evil: Dark Reboot from Cregger, Shock Trailer
A simple medical courier thrust into a night that quickly spirals out of control
The world of Resident Evil is preparing for a transformation. The new adaptation by Zach Cregger, already behind the unsettling Barbarian, abandons the franchise's more classic coordinates to focus on a more brutal and unpredictable experience, as suggested by the first official teaser.
At the center of the story is Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a simple medical courier thrust into a night that quickly spirals out of control. What seems like an ordinary assignment turns into a spiral of survival, where every choice can be fatal.
A Breathless Nightmare
The film does not aim to replicate previous models, but to rewrite them. The idea is for a grittier, almost claustrophobic narrative, where chaos takes over and the sense of security progressively crumbles. It's no coincidence that the project is presented as a "reinvention" capable of restoring pure tension to the original material.
The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Johnno Wilson. The screenplay was written by Cregger alongside Shay Hatten, who was previously involved in the John Wick 3 – Parabellum saga and its sequel.
The release is set for September 18, also in IMAX, with distribution by Sony Pictures.
