Ready Player Two, a new signal from the sequel arrives
The screenwriter clarified with a response as brief as it was significant
After a long period of silence, Ready Player Two is back in the news. Screenwriter Zak Penn, who co-wrote the adaptation of the first film with author Ernest Cline, has confirmed he is still working on the sequel's screenplay.
When asked during the red carpet for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Penn dismissed the question with a response as brief as it was significant: "I'm working on it." This statement represents the first real sign of life for the project after about two years without updates. This news, of course, does not imply an imminent start of filming, nor the announcement of a release date, but it confirms that Warner Bros. has not shelved the sequel to the film directed by Spielberg in 2018.
The sequel's development is still ongoing
Those who have read Ernest Cline's novel know that Ready Player Two further expands the concept of OASIS with the introduction of the ONI (OASIS Neural Interface), a technology capable of offering total sensory immersion. The sequel broadens the scope of the first film and opens up much more unsettling scenarios compared to a simple Easter Egg hunt.
It remains confirmed that Spielberg will not return to direct. The director will be involved exclusively as a producer, leaving another filmmaker with the task of inheriting the legacy of the first chapter, while the project continues its development without an official release window.
