The zombie myth by George A. Romero never dies. The first official trailer for the new Night of the Living Dead (2026) has just been released, a further reinterpretation of the 1968 classic that defined an entire genre.

Christopher Ray is directing, while the main face of the cast is Vivica A. Fox, already known to the general public for Kill Bill. Also with her are Brittany Underwood, Robert Carradine, and Miko Hughes. The zombies do not appear to be Snyder's "runners," but rather those that advance slowly and inexorably.

Nostalgia for Romero's Zombies

The new version adopts the most classic narrative scheme: a global event brings the dead back to life, transforming them into an uncontrollable threat. In a rapidly collapsing world, a small group of survivors seeks refuge and tries to resist the siege.

Official distribution details have not yet been announced, but the project is part of a long line of reinterpretations. Among these, the 1990 remake directed by Tom Savini is particularly remembered.

Meanwhile, Romero's legacy continues to expand through collateral productions, such as Festival of the Living Dead, set in the same narrative universe. More than fifty years after the original, Night of the Living Dead confirms itself as a title impossible to leave buried, but in 2026, the arrival of Return of the Living Dead is also expected. This is the reboot/remake of Dan O'Bannon's zombie film fueled by the escape of the infamous "Trioxin 2-4-5," in Christmas 1985.
