Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake Announced at Gamescom 2026
Ubisoft rebuilds the 1999 masterpiece from scratch with 3D free camera, real-time seasons, a new campaign featuring Queen Catherine, and full support for community maps: coming 2027 to PC and consoles
The news from Ubisoft doesn't stop at Rainbow Six, but also involves another piece of history from the French company: Heroes of Might and Magic. The Gamescom stage was indeed the setting for the relaunch of the saga with the remake of the third chapter, currently in development at Ubisoft China studios (Chengdu and Shanghai) and arriving in 2027 on Ubisoft+, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, and PC (Ubisoft Connect, Steam, Epic Games Store).
The remake maintains the classic gameplay – turn-based strategy, RPG hero progression, tactical grid combat – enriching it with more modern planning tools and quality-of-life improvements, without betraying the original spirit.
The biggest novelty is technical: rebuilt from scratch on the Snowdrop engine, the game abandons the historic fixed isometric view for a 3D world with a free camera, 4K graphics, dynamic lighting, real-time weather and seasons, bringing new life to the biomes and battlefields of Erathia.
On the content front, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake includes the entire original game plus the two expansions Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death, with all nine factions and historical campaigns united in a single continuous narrative experience. A new introductory campaign with a prologue, new cinematics, and the return of Queen Catherine as the protagonist of the story are also added.
The game will be playable solo or with up to 8 players online, with improved matchmaking, simultaneous turns, and the return of Hot Seat mode. Xavier Poix, Senior VP Ubisoft, described the project as a tribute to the legacy of the 1999 title and also a bridge to the future of the series.
Particular attention has been paid to the community: the remake will remain compatible with the thousands of maps and campaigns created by players over the last 25 years, supported by updated editors and a new integrated UGC hub. On the sound front, full voice acting, layered audio tracks, and environmental effects enhance the atmosphere, balancing nostalgia and modernity.
