Kingmakers Deepens Gameplay in New Trailer

Publisher Tinybuild and developer Redemption Road have shared a new trailer for Kingmakers, the over-the-top sandbox where players take part in medieval battles wielding modern weaponry. This title, developed with a custom version of Unreal Engine 4, has been postponed multiple times, but the video finally shows us a more polished build, which gives us hope for a launch not too far off.

The Story of Kingmakers

Kingmakers follows the story of a modern soldier who is sent back in time, to the early 15th century, to support the Welsh revolt against King Henry V and conquer England. For some obscure reason, if this doesn't happen, the entire future world would be in danger. The story is obviously a pretext for the action, but apparently, the setting of Kingmakers is popular, because Netflix has secured the rights for a film adaptation.

Kingmakers Gameplay

We have already had a taste of the thunderous action of Kingmakers: thousands of soldiers on screen, to be mowed down with rifles, bombs, cars, tanks, helicopters, and whatever else comes to hand, in completely destructible scenarios. During battles, the hero can accumulate loot, then return to their own era and spend it on more powerful weapons. There are also clashes with enemy officers, an aspect that feels very much like a musou game.

Alongside this very "ignorant" side of the gameplay, there is also a more thoughtful one concerning army management. In Kingmakers, players will not just shoot at everything that moves, but will also need to recruit and move troops on the field, as well as build settlements and their fortifications: the chaotic shooter is thus accompanied by strategy. The experience can be tackled both alone and in cooperative multiplayer for 4 players.

Kingmakers will be released on a date to be determined on PC, via Steam and Epic Games Store, in early access. If you want to try it, a playtest will be held soon, for which you can request access from Steam.
