Jean Grey Returns to Earth: Marvel Launches New Miniseries in November 2026
Jean Grey #1 will be released on November 25 after the events of DNX. Jed MacKay and Rogê Antônio will chronicle Phoenix's return to the X-Men and her new balance with Cyclops.
Marvel will bring Jean Grey back to Earth with a new five-issue miniseries, launching in the United States starting November 25, 2026. The announcement came via AIPT's X-Men Monday, where writer Jed MacKay and editor Tom Brevoort previewed Phoenix's role with the X-Men after the events of DNX. Rogê Antôniowill be on art for Jean Grey #1, having previously worked on the recent Cyclops miniseries.
The story will pick up directly from the aftermath of DNX, the crossover between X-Men and Fantastic Four built around the spread of the X-Virus. Jean will return from space still linked to the Phoenix Force, and the first problem will be understanding how much control she can maintain over a power capable of both generating and destroying life. The series will thus mark the end, at least for now, of the long cosmic period that began with Phoenix, which since 2024 had taken the character away from Earth and the rest of the X-Men.
The return will not only involve the miniseries. Jean will also join the cast of the ongoing X-Men series written by MacKay, thus reuniting with the team led by her husband Scott Summers. According to the author, after DNX, the X-Men will need Jean as much as Jean needs them, but this doesn't mean a simple return to the status quo. Her presence is expected to change both the group's composition and its leadership dynamics.
One of the most concrete differences will emerge in her relationship with Cyclops. Jean will join the X-Men in Alaska, but she will not live in the Factory, the fortified base used by Scott's team: instead, she will choose to settle in Merle with the local population. MacKay summarized the contrast between the two with a rather clear distinction: "Scott builds fortresses, Jean builds bridges." Rather than questioning their marriage, the miniseries seems intent on exploring the different ideas with which the two approach the role of leader and the relationship between mutants and the rest of society.
The debut issue will feature a main cover by Joëlle Jones, flanked by variants signed by Ito, Miguel Mercado, Nogi San, and Peach Momoko, among others. The editorial return also comes at a time of renewed exposure for Jean Grey outside of comics, an element MacKay himself recognized as favorable for bringing the character back to the center of the mutant line now.
