Frank Castle's return to the MCU doesn't go unnoticed, but this time the focus isn't just on his violence. In The Punisher: One Last Kill, Marvel seems to want to shift the conflict to a more subtle ground, where the enemy isn't just fought with weapons.

After the events of Daredevil: Born Again, the vigilante portrayed by Jon Bernthal finds himself once again embroiled in a war with deeper roots than usual. The first look at the project indeed suggests the introduction of a key figure from the Marvel criminal underworld: Ma Gnucci.

An Enemy Who Controls Everything From Above

Unlike adversaries faced in the past, Ma Gnucci isn't the classic direct target. In the comics, she is a dominant presence, capable of orchestrating illicit dealings and influencing institutions without exposing herself on the front lines.

The teaser hints at a reworked version of the character, perhaps younger but still central to the narrative dynamic. Some visual details, such as the connection to the Gnucci criminal empire, suggest that Marvel doesn't want to stray too far from the origins.

This changes the balance of the conflict: Castle won't just face enemies to eliminate, but a system to dismantle. And it's precisely here that the project could distinguish itself, focusing less on pure action and more on tension, control, and strategy.

With an evidently more adult tone, the special could represent one of the harshest and most complex interpretations of the character seen so far in the MCU.
