IO Interactive Unsure About Future as Publisher After MindsEye
The heavy flop of its first published game makes the Hitman studio waver
The Danish company IO Interactive took the spotlight just yesterday, revealing to the world the gameplay of 007 First Light, the anticipated action/stealth game starring a young James Bond. Founded in 1998, after spending a long time as a game developer, especially of stealth games (suffice it to say Hitman), IOI decided to take a leap forward and become a publisher, inaugurating the IOI Partners program. However, the first title published was the unfortunate MindsEye.
Will IOI Partners continue in the future?
As you may recall, MindsEye got off to a decidedly bad start: things went so negatively that some of the developers even hypothesized a conspiracy against them. This major flop certainly did not leave IO Interactive indifferent: CEO Hakan Abrak, speaking to IGN, explained how tough the reception was for both the developer and the publisher.
Abrak adds that Build a Rocket Boy is working hard to try and fix things and regain lost trust, wishing them success, of course. The CEO confirmed that IO Interactive will continue to self-publish its own titles, but for third-party titles, it's a different story and there's uncertainty: "IOI Partners? That remains to be seen" ("IOI Partners? That remains to be seen").
