Gorillaz Reopen Kong Studios
The legendary website is back online
The Gorillaz collective has been characterized over the years by countless experiments and innovations: among them, one of the most fitting ideas for their nature as a "virtual band" was undoubtedly their official website, Kong Studios: a commendable repository of clips, information, curiosities, photos, and more, all immersed in a plethora of mini-games created with the now-defunct Flash graphics engine.
The site was online from the late '90s until 2008, when it was shut down and its traces were lost... until today.
The video we reported announced the return online of Kong Studios, which you can reach at this link. Obviously, it's not the same site – Adobe definitively discontinued support for the browser version of Flash in 2017 – but it's incredible to see how tons of content could be poured back into a game-like navigation interface.
It's probably no coincidence that this return coincides with the band's introduction into Fortnite, but in some ways, we can consider it one of those "pieces" we talked about in the Special on the revival of '80s and '90s myths: Kong Studios might be a bit borderline, but every little bit helps...
