God of War – Hunt for Kratos' Interpreter for the Amazon Series
Contrary to expectations, the series will not start from the beginning of the game
After the global success of Fallout, Amazon Prime Video is targeting a new giant in video game adaptations: God of War. The platform has announced that filming will begin in 2026 and that the project, entrusted to Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), will be developed in collaboration with Cory Barlog, the historical director of the video games.
The heart of the debate is already the casting of Kratos. According to journalist John Campea, ten names are on the table: Henry Cavill, Winston Duke, Joe Manganiello, Christopher Judge, Manu Bennett, Jason Momoa, Travis Fimmel, Oliver Ritchers, Dave Bautista, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
Actors with the right physique are not lacking
Fans seem divided mainly between Joe Manganiello, for years considered the perfect candidate to embody Kratos, and Jason Momoa, already unforgettable as Khal Drogo and Aquaman. The Cavill hypothesis is exciting, but his busy franchise schedule could complicate things. Christopher Judge, the official voice of the character, remains a dream for gamers, even if the choice appears less likely.
The series will not retrace the Greek adventures, but will focus directly on the Norse phase, the same as the most recent PlayStation titles: a mix of family drama and dark myth, where the relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus will be central. Amazon has already confirmed at least 2 seasons, with the first consisting of 10 episodes.
