Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander finally arrives in Italy in the Astra line thanks to Star Comics' translation. The comic constitutes a new, crucial piece in the saga conceived and illustrated by Frank Miller and begun with the famous 300 – from which the film directed by Zack Snyder – in which the god-king played the antagonist.

The story takes us forward to the clashes between the Persian empire and the Athenian troops: Xerxes harbors resentment and feelings of revenge against General Themistocles, guilty of having assassinated his father. The war will continue until the Battle of Marathon and will then open the doors to the era of another great conqueror, Alexander the Great of Macedon.

Frank Miller

"Miller's raw and powerful style infuses tragic tension into every blow, every javelin thrown, while his solemn and evocative language accompanies every panel - we read in the press release - Dense shadows and blood-red stains transform the page into a battlefield, while the narrative alternates realism and symbolism, showing the birth and end of empires, the cyclical repetition of History. From the Battle of Marathon to Xerxes' revenge, up to Alexander's rise, the author paints a reflection on freedom, power, and the price of ideas."

Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander is available from October 28th in bookstores, comic shops, and online for €19.90.
