After two years of rumors, internal attempts, and the mess with Bob Chapek's succession that led to Bob Iger's return, The Walt Disney Company has made its decision: Josh D’Amaro will lead the group when Iger definitively steps down. The handover will begin on March 18, with Iger remaining as a consultant until his planned retirement in December 2026.

The choice marks a clear turning point. D’Amaro does not come from the Studios nor the creative world, but from the area that currently guarantees Disney its most solid margins: parks, experiences, and products. After having directed Disneyland and Walt Disney World, he was the architect of Disney Experiences' global expansion, including the massive $60 billion investment plan.

Starting Mid-March 2026

To avoid imbalances, Disney has also redesigned the creative leadership. Dana Walden assumes the role of President and Chief Creative Officer, becoming the central figure for cinema, TV, and streaming. She will report directly to D’Amaro, in a structure that clearly separates industrial management and artistic choices.

The message is clear: after the Chapek trauma, no more experiments. Continuity, control, and a Disney more oriented towards leveraging its IPs on a global scale, with fewer risks and more strategy.
