Disney+ Bets on Journey, New Animated Fantasy Saga
Story of a young girl living in a city isolated from the rest of the world
Disney+ is expanding its animated offerings with Journey, a new fantasy series currently in production and designed for an audience that loves imaginary worlds, mysteries, and long-form adventures.
At the heart of the story is a young girl who lives in a city isolated from the rest of the world by gigantic energy barriers. When that protection system begins to show signs of failure, the protagonist is forced to leave the safety of her home and face unknown territories that no one has explored for years.
The expedition will lead Journey to confront secrets related to her father's disappearance and a threat that seems to involve the entire balance of her world. During the adventure, a hidden power will also emerge that could prove decisive for the future of her community.
A Journey Beyond the Borders of the Known World
Behind the project we find Matt Munn, an author with experience in animated cinema, joined by producer Steve Loter, a name known to fans of Disney productions for his work on several animated series and films from the Studio.
Among the most surprising aspects of the initiative is also the participation of Higher Ground, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama. Until now, the production house had distinguished itself primarily for educational and family programs, while Journey represents an entry into a decidedly different territory.
Disney has not yet announced a release date, but the official description hints at the ambition to build a new fantasy property capable of speaking to younger audiences but also to viewers who grew up with great animated adventures.
