Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Shows Us a Gameplay Overview
Let's dive into the horror of Nacon's new game
Publisher Nacon and developer Big Bad Wolf have shared a new trailer for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, offering us an overview of the game and its main mechanics. The trailer's narrator is KEY, the AI assistant to protagonist Noah during his exploration of the underwater station. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss will be released on April 16, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, GOG).
Mechanics highlighted in the trailer
- Clue Analysis: Analyze or examine an object to find clues and advance the investigation. Each analysis provides the player with further information on the object's composition and unlocks new sonar frequencies, allowing them to locate other elements of similar composition.
- Energy: Analysis consumes energy. The player must use this resource sparingly; if they run out and continue to analyze objects, their corruption meter will increase. To recover energy, it is necessary to collect strange organic resources scattered here and there.
- The Vault: This database collects all discovered clues and documents. It is an essential tool for solving puzzles by connecting clues and progressing the investigation.
- The Sonar: This multitasking tool allows you to advance in the darkness by revealing hidden passages. The sonar can track discovered frequencies to find new clues by following certain leads. It also allows the player to reveal the invisible.
- Artifacts and Upgrades: Discover strange artifacts that allow you to upgrade some of your investigative tools with KEY's help. But beware, these upgrades are vulnerable: they can be corrupted and destroyed by the player's choices.
- The Corruption Meter: Every action or decision can increase the level of corruption, gradually pushing Noah towards madness. This meter will influence the course and conclusion of the investigation.
