Carrie Returns with Mike Flanagan: Meet the New Protagonist

The new version of Carrie from Prime Video is starting to take shape. The first official image of Summer H. Howell as the tormented Carrie White, protagonist of the series created by Mike Flanagan and inspired by Stephen King's famous novel, has leaked.

The visual impact already seems to clarify the chosen direction: no glamorous reinterpretation or modern teen horror, but a more oppressive, gritty, and psychologically disturbing atmosphere. Howell appears fragile, consumed, almost crushed by the world around her, a detail that brings the character back to the story's most tragic roots.

A Return That Aims to Go Beyond the Remake

The series will consist of 8 episodes and promises to delve into aspects only hinted at in previous films. The goal seems to be to explore with greater attention Carrie's social isolation, her mother Margaret's religious fanaticism, and the daily brutality the girl endures. The cast will also include Samantha Sloyan as the mother, a central figure in the emotional balance of the story.

The comparison to Sissy Spacek's historic performance, still considered iconic today, remains inevitable. But Flanagan's project seems to want to focus less on a simple remake and more on a modern reinterpretation of adolescent trauma and collective violence.
