Amazon Prime Video has renewed Carrie for a second season. Mike Flanagan's horror series, based on Stephen King's novel, debuted on October 7 with eight episodes.

According to Deadline, the production took the top spot in Prime Video's global weekly ranking in over 105 countries. The platform did not disclose viewership data, but the result confirms international interest in the reinterpretation of the beloved author's famous novel.

Mike Flanagan looks beyond the original novel

The new version stars Summer H. Howell as the protagonist, a marginalized teenager living under the control of her mother Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan. After her father's sudden death, Carrie must face a hostile school environment, a bullying campaign amplified by social networks, and the awakening of her telekinetic powers.

Flanagan explained that he had envisioned from the beginning a story capable of going beyond the events of the prom. The director has also previously indicated three seasons as the ideal development of the story, conceived as a narrative arc articulated in as many parts.

Stephen King also expressed enthusiasm for the future of the series, anticipating new perspectives for the character. At the moment, neither the release date nor the plot details of the upcoming episodes have been announced.
