Carrie: Flanagan's Series Hides a Link to King
Flanagan decided to embed the story of the telekinetic girl within a broader narrative structure
Mike Flanagan's new Carrie contains a reference to one of the most important elements of Stephen King's narrative universe: The Dark Tower. The connection doesn't come directly from the original novel, but stems from the showrunner's choices for the Prime Video series, already available for streaming in Italy.
In the book published in 1974, Carrie White has no explicit ties to King's fantasy saga, which began years later. However, Flanagan decided to embed the story of the telekinetic girl within that broader narrative structure, also leveraging the connections the writer has built throughout his career.
Carrie Exists on Another Level of the Tower
Speaking with TV Insider, Flanagan explained that, according to his interpretation, everything King writes can exist "on a certain level of the Tower." The new series thus also becomes a possible entry point into the writer's vast shared universe.
The choice takes on further significance considering that Flanagan has been developing an adaptation of The Dark Tower for years. Some of Carrie's cast members have already expressed interest in potential involvement in the project, including Samantha Sloyan and Carrie herself - Summer H. Howell.
