For Bungie, the US software house controlled by Sony, 2026 is proving to be an extremely difficult year. The studio sadly concluded support for Destiny 2, which for several years had failed to meet financial targets. There was also the launch of Marathon, which was preceded by a rather troubled development and it is currently unclear whether it will be able to stand on its own in the years to come.

Bungie and Sony Layoffs

With a message via Twitter/X, Bungie announced a reorganization that will entail numerous layoffs, acknowledging the impossibility of continuing to operate at the same size as before. The matter was further elaborated upon by Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, who specified that the measure will affect a large part of the Destiny 2 team, but also a part of the team currently working on Marathon.

Unfortunately, that's not all: some of Bungie's support studios will also see their staff reduced. Hulst specified that Marathon will remain an important element of PlayStation's portfolio (but it remains to be seen for how long...). Bungie is also working on unannounced projects, which will be revealed in the future.
