Destiny 2 launched in September 2017 and grew steadily until 2024, culminating in The Final Shape. After reaching its peak, the work by US studio Bungie sought to reinvent itself, with a new beginning that modified the update cadence. However, the live service shooter has lost player interest, heading towards an inevitable epilogue.

Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph

With a message on its official website, Bungie announced that on June 9, the last major update for Destiny 2, called Monument of Triumph, will be released. This update will bring players back to the solar system and will feature a multitude of different activities, so that every user can find something they enjoy. Bungie had intended to spread this content across multiple patches, but necessity dictated consolidating them into a single update.

What future for Destiny?

Bungie will work to ensure Destiny 2 remains playable for years to come, but the future of the franchise is far from rosy. According to Jason Schreier, the company intends to lay off a significant portion of its workforce after the development of Destiny 2 concludes. The hypothetical sequel Destiny 3 would not be in production: Bungie is reportedly testing prototypes for future titles, which could include Destiny 3, but at the moment there are no confirmed projects.

NEW: Bungie is planning a significant layoff following the end of Destiny 2's development. Destiny 3 is NOT in active production. Some Bungie staff are pitching and prototyping new ideas including Destiny games, but none are yet greenlit. Story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
