Blade – Reboot Update with Mahershala Ali
Since its official announcement, the film has gone through a troubled phase of rewrites and delays
The fate of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be uncertain, and the latest news does not help to dispel doubts. The project announced in 2019 by Kevin Feige with Mahershala Ali as the protagonist still seems far from concrete realization.
The actor has just signed on for the second season of Task, a successful HBO series also involving Mark Ruffalo. A commitment of this type implies long lead times and significant planning, which is hardly compatible with a potential imminent start of filming for Blade.
A Still Undefined Future
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios looks ahead with colossal productions like Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), projects destined to monopolize resources and attention. In this scenario, the reboot of the vampire hunter appears increasingly sidelined.
Since its official presentation, Blade has gone through a troubled phase of rewrites and delays, without ever reaching a true production phase. Even Ali's presence in the franchise is limited so far to a brief vocal cameo in Eternals.
Certainly, the casting remains one of the most successful choices for the project, but a clear direction is still missing. And while Marvel's attention seems to be oriented towards new paths, the risk is that Blade will progressively lose centrality. For now, the film is not canceled, but time passes and, paradoxically, Wesley Snipes' Blade today appears more concrete than the one announced by Marvel.
