Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust have shared a new trailer for Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, the new installment in the JRPG series focused on alchemy, which was announced last week. In the video, producer Junzo Hosoi, head of Gust studio, illustrates the main features of the work and the differences compared to previous Atelier titles.

The Story of Atelier Karia

Atelier Karia takes place a couple of years after the events narrated in Atelier Yumia and tells the story of Karia, a young adventurer who has lost her memory and distrusts the company of others. To survive, however, she will be forced to join the Aladiss Pioneering Team, a team of explorers whose mission is to scout a mysterious underground kingdom. The protagonist will eventually shed light on her past and perfect her alchemical technique.

Atelier Karia's Eating System

Atelier Karia's motto is "alchemy expands everything", meaning that alchemical synthesis should not be limited to battle, but should also expand exploration, construction, and every other aspect. This philosophy is reflected in the game's main novelty, the Eating System: Karia can eat everything, from potions to materials, even bombs. Depending on what she swallows, she can unlock different abilities and her appearance will change (there are more than 100 different looks).

Alchemical Synthesis and Combat

As in any respectable Atelier game, alchemy will be of paramount importance here. The various compounds will be synthesized in the cauldron using so-called Mana Pieces, which contain various ingredients, thus giving effects to potions that differ significantly depending on the combinations. The combat system is action-oriented and tries to be deeper than in the past, but the real novelty consists in being able to face colossal enemies.

Atelier Karia will be released in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, via Steam.
