Zombieland 3 - Ruben Fleischer and the Decade Tradition
Between zombies and vampires, Fleischer's future seems more eventful than ever
Ruben Fleischer has not given up on the idea of completing the Zombieland trilogy, maintaining the curious 10-year gap between chapters. After the 2009 film and the sequel Zombieland: Double Tap in 2019, the director confirmed to Deadline that the goal is to bring Zombieland 3 to theaters in 2029.
According to Fleischer, initial conversations about the project have already begun: the creative team had ironically promised to meet again "in 10 years" after the release of the second film. Now that deadline is approaching, and the idea of returning to the zombie-infested world seems more concrete than ever.
The Trilogy Seems Closer Than Ever
Even Jesse Eisenberg, who stars alongside Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, doesn't rule out a return. The actor told ComicBook that he is available to reprise the role, while acknowledging that the long gaps in the saga make other projects, like the new installment of the Now You See Me series, more likely.
Parallel to this possible third chapter, Fleischer is working on another very different project: a western with a vampire as the protagonist. The director describes the concept as "an Unforgiven where Clint Eastwood is a vampire," a genre mash-up he has dreamed of making for years.
