X-Files - I Want to Believe Returns in Carter's Director's Cut
The more graphic and disturbing version that was blocked by production in 2008
Almost twenty years after its theatrical release, X-Files - I Want to Believe – The X-Files: I Want to Believe is set to return in a completely new form. On August 14, The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn, a Director's Cut that, according to series creator Chris Carter, finally represents the film he wanted to make in 2008, will debut on Hulu and Disney+.
The new cut not only adds deleted scenes but reconstructs the work following the original concept, with a much darker tone and an “Rated R” (V.M. 17 unaccompanied) classification for more explicit content. Carter explained that at the time, various compromises prevented the full development of the idea for a thriller inspired by the Frankenstein myth, calling this new edition an opportunity to bring that unfulfilled vision back to the screen.
The film as it should have been from the beginning
The story sees Fox Mulder and Dana Scully called back into action after years away from the FBI. The disappearance of a federal agent and the disturbing visions of a former priest drag them into an investigation rooted in the darkest aspects of human nature.
At the time, X-Files - I Want to Believe failed to replicate the success of the first film in the saga, stopping at approximately 69 million dollars in worldwide box office. This new version now aims to re-evaluate a controversial chapter, offering the public the cut that Carter considers closest to his original idea.
